What is the true meaning of "Friendship"?

What is a true friend?

Someone who is there when you really need someone?
Someone that will drop whatever they are doing to be by you your side?
Someone to be there just to listen to you cry without talking, just letting you get the hurt out and understanding why you are hurting?

Or is it that you pick when you want to be friends with someone at your convenience?
Or is it when you put on a show in front of others to make yourself look like someone you are truly not to be accepted?
Or is it "Call me and we will set up a time to meet sometime"?

Friendship to me is loving someone unconditionally... even if they are hard to love...
being there for each other no matter what...
being open and honest with one another even if the truth hurts...
accepting one another, inspite of your faults and downfalls...
not giving up on that friend even through the hard and difficult times... let's face it... life is hard...relationships are hard... but I think a friendship that is a true, solid and real friendship will be around for years... and continue to grow and strengthen...

I believe that the true meaning is stated in Proverbs 17:17.
